Last month, at Community Studio in Dnipro, we held a training on “Humanitarian Principles and a Trauma-Informed Approach in Working with Internally Displaced Persons.” The training brought together 30 participants, social workers from humanitarian organizations, psychologists, and project managers. The programme combined theoretical knowledge with practical tools essential for day-to-day fieldwork.

Trainings for humanitarian professionals are not only about knowledge, but also about the ability to remain resilient while working in conditions of constant stress and exposure to traumatic experiences.
During the training, participants explored:
- a trauma-informed approach in working with beneficiaries;
- humanitarian principles as the foundation of professional practice;
- the anatomy of traumatic experience.
The practical component focused on applying the acquired knowledge and tools in real-life work scenarios. In addition, a separate two-hour group psychological session was held, aimed at addressing emotional burnout and supporting participants in restoring their internal resources.
This format not only strengthens professional expertise but also creates a safe space for sharing experiences and recovery.
Participants highlighted the value of the training, especially the opportunity to work together and learn from one another. Creating a space where humanitarian professionals can openly exchange experiences and perspectives is essential, as it strengthens both individual capacity and team resilience.
