The Charitable Foundation “Team4UA” held a working meeting with representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine on approaches to veteran policy and support for veterans. The discussion was joined by the Advisor to the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Finashyn, and the Director of the International Relations Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Pavlo Kasap.
During the meeting, participants discussed the challenges veterans face upon returning to civilian life, as well as possible forms of cooperation in the areas of support, adaptation, and access to essential services.
Today, within the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, veteran policy is established as a separate area of work. It covers support for personnel of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine: police officers, rescuers, border guards, and National Guard members, who were injured during military service, or have obtained veteran status.
We see a growing demand for veteran support, particularly in legal assistance, navigation of available services, and comprehensive post-service support. In response, Team4UA will launch dedicated projects and initiatives aimed at strengthening systematic veteran support in the future.
“Veteran support in Ukraine is being shaped in the context of war, which makes it impossible to simply replicate existing international models. While global experience is an important reference point, it must be adapted to Ukrainian realities, where the scale of needs and challenges is different. That is why it is essential to combine international experience with local and innovative solutions and to develop practices that work here and now,” said Guillaume Banos, Head of Programmes.
The meeting was also attended by Jean-Christophe Bonis, Director and Oleksandra Chuhunova, Communications Manager.
We thank the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine for their openness to dialogue and for the opportunity to contribute to the development of veteran policy in Ukraine.
