Team4UA supported the delivery of a Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT) for members and partners of the TERA Consortium.
The training aimed to enhance the safety and preparedness of personnel working in high-risk environments. Participants gained practical skills in risk assessment, personal safety, provision of first aid, and response to various threats, including shelling, behavior at checkpoints, kidnapping situations, and civil unrest.
Participants included representatives from Angels of Salvation, I Am Saved, Strong Because Free, Light of Culture, HAYSTOV, Universal Aid Ukraine, Unity and Strength, and BASE UA. Nine representatives from Team4UA also took part in the training.
The 4-day programme combined theoretical sessions with intensive practical exercises.
Participants worked on the following topics:
• risk assessment and situational awareness;
• first aid (MARCH protocol, CPR, trauma care);
• safe movement and behavior at checkpoints;
• mine risk awareness, UXO, and response during shelling;
• response to active shooter situations, detention, and other critical incidents;
• fire safety and the use of firefighting equipment;
• information security and stress management.
Special emphasis was placed on simulation scenarios closely reflecting real-life conditions, including a final comprehensive exercise.
The training was delivered by trainers from Octopus Security LLC, who have extensive experience in providing specialized training for NGOs, international organizations, and UN agencies.
