Background
Intensive hostilities and regular shelling of frontline and recently de-occupied territories of Ukraine lead to the destruction of housing, critical infrastructure, and disruption of local markets. This creates an acute humanitarian crisis and deprives local residents of access to essential basic needs, including food.
In many communities, the civilian population faces shortages of food and essential goods. The most affected are those who remain in frontline areas, particularly older persons, people with disabilities, pregnant women, single parents with children, and other vulnerable categories of the population.
The delivery of humanitarian aid to such communities often depends on mobile humanitarian missions and the coordinated work of field teams. To respond promptly to these needs, the Charitable Foundation “Team4UA” implemented two separate emergency food assistance projects with the support of the UN World Food Programme (WFP) and Mercy Corps.
Project Description
Emergency Food Assistance (WFP) – a short-term project aimed at providing vulnerable populations with food parcels in frontline and de-occupied communities.
Winter Ready-to-Eat Response (Mercy Corps) – an emergency response project that provided the population with ready-to-eat food rations during the winter period for communities with limited access to cooking facilities.
Core Activities
- Assembly and targeted distribution of balanced food parcels (weekly and monthly) and winter ready-to-eat rations.
- Organization of secure supply chains for humanitarian cargo to rural and urban communities located within a radius of up to 40 km from the frontline.
Project Geography
Priority regions of implementation: Donetsk, Kherson, Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Sumy oblasts (with a focus on communities directly along the line of contact and newly liberated territories).
Results
- Provision of emergency food assistance and winter ready-to-eat rations to thousands of the most vulnerable individuals in the acute crisis zone.
- Stabilization of food security in communities located within the 40-kilometer zone from the line of hostilities.
Implementation Partners
The projects are implemented by the Charitable Foundation “Team4UA” in close coordination with international humanitarian institutions and local authorities:
UN World Food Programme (WFP) – a key international partner and donor providing methodological support, supply of basic food commodities, and coordination within the Food Security Cluster.
Mercy Corps – an international partner supporting the funding of emergency logistical operations and ready-to-eat programs for the winter period.
